News From the Home Front:
January 2001 presented an opportunity to travel to my
hometown of Chicago, Illinois to speak at the regional meeting of the EMDR (Eye
Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) at the Illinois School of
Professional Psychology. I shared with them my work in Kaliningrad, Russia with
the orphans and Afghanistan Veterans. The Eye Movement Desensitization and
Reprocessing International Association has a Humanitarian Assistance Program
(HAP) that brings much needed help to war torn countries like Croatia and Bosnia
as well as local assistance to areas ravaged by Hurricane Andrew and Hurricane
Paulina in Mexico. I was first introduced to this powerful treatment for trauma
in the wake of the Oklahoma City bombing. These wonderfully caring professionals
gave tirelessly to Oklahoma to train and supply the urgent care workers with
invaluable support and assistance. As I spoke to this group in Chicago, I found
myself presenting to the very professionals that had trained me to help those in
our own heartland. I marvel at how small a world we really live in and how
important it is for neighbor to reach out to neighbor.
In addition, I have been extended a wonderful opportunity to serve
as an EMDR consultant to the TULSA BOYS HOME in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. The home
is a well recognized locally supported source of help for adolescent boys. There
are approximately 50 adolescent boys that have been placed by department of
human services and the private sector for long term help with a variety of
developmental traumas. What an exciting opportunity to serve the needs of the
local community as well as our friends in Russia.
Where Have We Been...Where Are We Going!
A two week visit to Kaliningrad, Russia in May of
1998 was a trip of destiny. We visited 20 orphanages at the invitation of the State
Government of Russia bringing much needed
medicines, eye glasses, toys and educational materials. To experience the
gratitude of a young person able to see for the first time and to minister God's
love to these people is beyond words. I conducted five days of seminars
throughout Russia which opened up opportunities to share God's love and
provision for healing.
In May of 1999 we made a
second trip with a powerful team. We again presented training seminars on God's
plan for healing the whole person - spirit, soul and body! I had the privilege
of ministering to a delegation of Afghanistan veterans and their families
suffering from the effects of post traumatic stress disorder: The Russian news
media gave us favorable reports on the results of the trauma therapy presented.
I have been invited to return to participate in
an international conference for children at risk.
God has opened a miracle
door of opportunity for us to reach people who are for the most part, people who have desperate needs and are open and responsive.
On the local front, I am
taping several teaching series on The Spirit of Counsel, The Healing Gifts,
Restoring the Heart of the Family, and the Going Beyond Series to make available
at seminars to you, our sponsors.
